The Windmill Bella Vista stands tall upon a hill, giving superb views of the Aegean Sea, the Cyclades Islands and the beautiful villages and countryside that surrounds Artemonas.

Built in the 18th century, the windmill itself was originally an important commodity for the island, processing a large volume of produce for the inhabitants. After being left redundant in the 1950s, it quickly fell into disrepair, but work began in 1997 to restore it. Today, the windmill itself is the centrepiece of the hotel, offering you the chance to stay within its newly restored walls. It is complemented by a number of whitewashed studios and apartments, constructed in true Sifnos style with traditional stone architecture.

All accommodation at the Windmill Bella Vista includes a kitchenette and either a private balcony or veranda with sea view.

Food & beverage

The traditional cafe-bar serves fine Mediterranean cuisine and the best delicacies from Sifnos. Only the best local products are used, including freshly caught fish, locally produced meat, home grown vegetables and traditional sweets from Sifnos.

To accompany your meal, you can choose from a large selection of red and white Greek wines including the hotel's own “Windmill Bella Vista” wine, pressed with grapes from its vineyards.

Alternatively, try the excellent 'Raki', accompanied by some local 'mezedes' (entrees).

Breakfast is included in the price of your stay at Windmill Bella Vista and is served either at the snack bar or on the private balcony/veranda of your room. This includes fresh tea or coffee (espresso, cappuccino, French filter, Nescafe or traditional Greek coffee), homemade Sifnian cheese (Myzithra and Manoura) sliced meets, fruit juice, eggs, toasted sandwich, cake and Sifnian sweets.

A snack bar is open (10/06-30/09 )all day, serving light meals, ice creams, coffee, fruit juice and other drinks.

A municipality until 1998, Artemonas is one of the most picturesque villages of Sifnos, thanks to predominant neoclassical architecture and beautiful gardens. Visitors can see the house where the poet Gryparis was born, along with the churches of the Virgin Mary of Kohi and the Virgin Mary of Samos. The latter church was extended in 1788 and is now home to a rare icon of the Virgin Mary, depicted without the Holy Child.

Nearby attractions include:

Apollonia (2 km) - connected to Artemonas by both footpath and bus route, the capital of Sifnos is a beautiful village, spread out across the hills. The Museum of Popular Arts and Folklore and the frescoes of Agios Athanassios church are both worth a visit.

Kastro (3.5 km) - the capital of the island between the 14th and 19th centuries, a good deal of medieval charm is still in evidence here. Built on a rocky cliff-side area, there is virtually a sheer drop down to the sea on 3 sides.

By Ferry (From Kamares, 10 km):
- Ferries regularly run from Piraeus to Sifnos.
- You are likely to be dropped off at the island's main port, Kamares.
- If you do not wish to take a taxi, a bus service regularly connects Kamares with the main villages, including Artemonas.
- From the bus stop in Artemonas, you will be approximately 500 metres south of the hotel.
- There are a number of paths leading to the windmill. Since it is on a hill, you should be able to make your way towards it by keeping it in sight.

By Car:
- Car hire establishments are available on the island. If hiring in Kamares, take the main road to Apollonia.
- Take the road to Artemonas.
- Keep on the main road in the direction of the windmill and take the lanes leading you towards it.
