Nearby Herstmonceux (1 km) is famous for its magnificent moated castle, set in beautiful parkland and superb Elizabethan landscaped gardens. Originally built as a country home in the 15th century, it embodies the history of Medieval England and the romance of Renaissance Europe.

Herstmonceux is also the home of the Observatory Science Centre, formerly the Royal Greenwich Observatory. This centre is run by a charity to enable children to discover more about the world around them.

From the M25 or M26:
- Exit onto the A21 for Hastings.
- Exit for Battle (A2100) and at the roundabout, take the 3rd exit onto North Trade Road (A271).
- Continue for Windmill Hill and turn left onto Comphurst Lane. The hotel is found on the right.
