Valentines offer - now available from 14-17 February 2008.
Our bedrooms are generally larger and have a lot more character than you will find in modern hotels, retaining many of the original Georgian features.
Food & beverage
Enjoy a pre-meal drink in our popular bar, or a light bite from our extensive bar menu at lunchtime. Our best recommendation is that the Castle bar and restaurants are popular venues for the friendly locals as well as for guests.
We have an excellent reputation for serving fine food at modest prices. Everything is cooked to order by our team of chefs from fresh ingredients delivered daily, and you really will notice the difference in taste. We use only the finest local produce with Welsh black beef and Welsh fresh lamb a speciality.
We offer a choice from our daily table d'hôte 3-course menu or you can choose from the à la carte menu. Either way. you will find a choice of dishes to appeal to every taste. Our friendly head chef is always happy to cater for any special dietary requirements given sufficient notice.
We believe that a meal should be an experience in its own right and a memorable part of any stay. So please feel free to take your time as your table is yours for the whole evening.
The historical town of Ruthin is situated in North Wales with its origins in the 13th century. The town was built on a red sandstone hill as a strategic lookout over the River Clwyd. Ruthin has over 700 years of recorded history, whose streets have been trodden by kings, queens, princes and travellers, its past suffered plague, battle and siege. Buildings reflect the best of architectural styles, making the town an outstanding conservation area worthy of preservation.
In the early 15th century the castle was held by Lord Grey, a gentleman who had made an enemy of one Owain Glyndwr by trying to acquire the Dee estates of the Welshman. When Glyndwr was ready to launch his bid for an independent Wales, Ruthin and Lord Grey became the 1st target. The attack surprised all and Ruthin was ravaged and burnt. The civil war saw Ruthin Castle resisting attack by parliamentary forces, who returned to besiege it 2 years later in 1646. The castle was destroyed by order of parliament.
